Tragedy Strikes as Six Drown in Pune Dam Boat Mishap

Six individuals, including two children, tragically drowned after their boat capsized in the Ujani dam backwaters in Pune district, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening amid adverse weather conditions, according to officials.

Indapur tehsildar Shrikant Patil confirmed that the victims comprised three men, a woman, and two children. The boat was in service between Kalashi and Bhugav villages when it overturned due to strong winds and heavy rain.

An assistant police inspector, who was one of the seven individuals on the boat, managed to swim to safety. However, the remaining six occupants were unable to escape the capsized vessel.

Currently, a search operation is in progress with the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities to locate the victims and provide assistance to their families.

Local authorities and the NDRF are continuing their efforts to locate the missing persons and retrieve their bodies from the Ujani dam backwaters. The incident has deeply affected the local community, and efforts are underway to provide support to the families of the victims during this difficult time. Authorities have urged caution during the monsoon season, emphasizing the dangers of venturing out onto water bodies during adverse weather conditions.
