MAINPURI:  More than 21 students fell ill and 7 other were hospitalised after allegedly drinking contaminated water at Government Engineering College in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, a health official said on Friday, February 10.

The matter came to light when district health officials found that large students from a local institution had been taken to a hospital. PP Singh, the Mainpuri (CMO) Chief Medical Officer, and Madan Lal, the Maharaja Tej Singh District Hospital's Centers for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS), reached the district hospital right away to collect data and assess the students' conditions.

Since February 9, at least 21 students enrolled in engineering programmes at a government engineering college have been brought to a hospital with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea, according to Madan Lal (CMS).

He said that seven students are currently receiving care at the hospital and added that other patients have been released. 21 engineering college students' conditions deteriorated on Thursday night after they drank water from the water cooler.

"In a hurry, everyone was brought to the district hospital where seven students were admitted. Others were discharged after first aid," he said.

""The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has received water samples from water tanks, purifiers, and chiller devices for use in clinical testing. At first glance, it appears that tainted water may be the illness's root cause, "the health official said, adding that Students who suffered after drinking contaminated water expressed concern over toxic materials in the water.

The health officials said that further investigation is underway.
