LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath government is mulling to set up over 700 urban health and wellness centres (UHWCs) in the state. This would make it possible for people in Uttar Pradesh to receive medical advice close to where they live.

District health education officer for Lucknow, Yogesh Raghuvanshi, said: "The procedure has started. We have determined the locations where UHWCs will be established, and we will post job advertisements there." In phases, 108 urban health and wellness centres will operate in Lucknow, according to a formal announcement made on Friday.
Patients will have access to 14 diagnostic tools at these facilities. Also, after the medical personnel is trained to do the test, it will be available for cervical cancer diagnosis.

The UHWCs will also offer telemedicine services, allowing specialists at top institutions to consult on complex medical issues while working from a distance.

The directive sent to chief medical officers across the state stated that "if the experts recommend a test not conducted by UHWCs, the sample collection facilities for the particular test will be provided by UHWCs."

The location of UHWCs was selected based on a risk assessment and mapping of metropolitan areas, slums/vulnerable areas, and regions without primary healthcare facilities, according to health department authorities.

Secretary General of the Association of International Doctors, Dr. Abhishek Shukla, said: "In regions without a primary healthcare institution, UHWCs are being established. Because they won't need to go to district hospitals for basic medical counselling and diagnosis, people in these locations will have easier access to medical services, which would lighten the burden on larger hospitals." The UHWCs will have a room for the outpatient department (OPD), a room for vaccinations, a waiting and registration space, one room for wellness, and a separate daycare room.

The dimensions of each chamber are known. As an illustration, the OPD will be a 100-square-foot space, while the waiting area and registration will be 210 square feet.

The UHWCs are opening in areas with more than 50,000 urban residents.
