Lucknow: According to early trends in the counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party is leading from the Karhal Assembly seat in the Azamgarh district, followed by Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in second and third place, respectively.

According to the latest figures from the Election Commission of India, Akhilesh Yadav earned more than 90 percent of the total votes in the Karhal constituency, while the BJP's SP Singh Baghel received only 6 percent and the BSP's Kuladip Narayan received more than 1 percent.

Meanwhile,  Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is running on a Samajwadi Party ticket, is trailing in the Jaswantnagar Assembly constituency. However, at 10.05 am., the BJP has crossed the century mark, with 116 seats in the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in its favour.

According to the Election Commission of India, the Samajwadi Party is lagging in second position with leads over 55 seats in the state thus far. The vote counting began at 8 am. and will continue until the final results are announced.

Exit polls released on Monday forecast a strong victory for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, with the magnitude of the victory differing between surveys.
