Universal Solidarity Movement (USM) Indore has been organizing webinars for school teachers from October 2020 onwards on the theme, “Teachers as Mentors”. From January 2 to 5, 200 teachers of five schools participated in the webinars conducted by the USM. The schools are 1) Queen Mary’s Convent School, Bhopal 2) St. Antony’s Gianelli Convent School Nepanagar, MP 3) St. Antony’s Convent School, Sonkach MP (English Medium) 4) St. Antony’s Convent School, Sonkach MP (Hindi Medium) and 5) St. Gianelli Convent School Nagpur MS.

From October 2020 to January first week USM could organize webinars for 850 teachers of 17 schools in seven states. The webinars were found to be very effective, as many teachers adopted resolutions at the end of the webinars to become effective mentors.

The webinar consists of four sessions of one and half hours each spread out in four days. The four sessions are focused on four interrelated topics. They are 1) Characteristics of a mentor 2) Education for social change 3) Practical modules for personal transformation and social transformation 4) The miracle of possibility thinking and transformation.  

The process of the webinar is planned participatory. At the end of each session, 10 to 15 minutes are allotted for interaction in the form of asking questions or making comments. The participants are also given two or three questions for reflection on the topic and write the fruits of their reflection on the same day. They are expected to send their write ups on the next day to the principal, and the principal summarizes them and sends to the USM before the next session starts.

The above mentioned methodology helps the participating teachers to reflect and internalize what they heard during the sessions and draw insights for application to their personal life and their teaching mission. That is why the teachers are able to take very relevant resolutions to be practised in their personal life and in their relationship with the students.
