In a major incident that occurred on Monday, five people, including three children, were killed and two others went missing. The loss of life was reported after three houses collapsed in a village following heavy rains in the Dharchula sub-division of the district in Uttarakhand.

The officials state that the incident took place in Jumma village late Sunday night, Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan. As the news came to known, officials ran the spot to supervise relief and rescue operations. SSB commandant M P Singh informed, "Five bodies, including those of three children, have been recovered, while the search for two more still missing is underway." He further added that the team built a helipad in the affected area, a control room set up there and a medical team sent to the village to treat the injured. Rescue operations will go on until all the missing persons are found and the affected people are moved to safety. Meanwhile, the district magistrate said "We have made an aerial survey of the village by a helicopter and sent SDRF and NDRF teams, along with police and revenue teams, to the village to run relief and rescue operations on a war footing." Further, to examine the degree of devastation caused by severe rains in Jumma village, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami talked with Chauhan and Kumaon Commissioner Sushil Kumar.

He urged officials to relocate the affected individuals to safe areas as soon as possible and to provide appropriate provisions for food and medication for them. He also requested that the Kumaon commissioner guarantee that all roads in the region, including national highways, are cleared as soon as possible. He stated, however, that he will travel there as soon as the weather permits.
