NEW DELHI: In a compelling address at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue-2023, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized the critical necessity for embracing innovative approaches to bolster diplomacy and enhance deterrence in the pursuit of more efficient conflict resolution.
Vice President Dhankhar highlighted the paramount importance of achieving and maintaining global peace through a multifaceted approach that combines ideation, advocacy, outreach, persuasion, and dialogue, while also maintaining a vigilant and prepared stance.
"Preparation for war is, paradoxically, a conduit to peace," he declared, underscoring that a nation's strength serves as a potent defense and deterrent.
Dhankhar also underscored the significance of harnessing a nation's soft power and economic might as integral components in bolstering the overall security landscape.
He pointed out the transformative impact of emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, quantum computing, semiconductors, biotechnology, drones, and hypersonics on the nature of warfare.
"The mastery of these domains will determine the future's strategic leaders and followers," Dhankhar asserted.
Referring to ongoing crises in Ukraine and West Asia, the Vice President expressed his concern that, despite the era of globalization and economic interdependence, conflicts persist.
He stressed the growing importance of nations' ability to translate economic surpluses into tangible power and urged the exploration of innovative strategies to fortify deterrence and rejuvenate diplomacy for more effective conflict resolution.
"National security in today's world is a complex amalgamation of various attributes and capacities, with the military being just one piece of the puzzle," he emphasized, calling for diverse elements to converge and create a robust power dynamic capable of finding resolutions suitable for the contemporary global landscape.
