Wales qualified for the Football World Cup after 64 years after defeating Ukraine 1-0 here on Sunday with a suicide goal from Andrei Yarmolenko. Wales captain Gareth Bale, who was once one of the most expensive footballers in the world, took to the field despite tightness in the waist and in an attempt to stop his free kick in the 34th minute, Yarmolenko had the ball in his own goal with a header. The Ukraine team, which is facing Russia's attack at home, has suffered such a disappointment. This is the biggest difference for a team to see between FIFA qualifying for two World Cups.
It has been revealed some time ago that football's global body FIFA has allowed Cameroon to include former French Under-21 player Georges-Kevin Nkoudou in its national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup. FIFA has also allowed the player to make changes in terms of international representation.
Nkoudou will be seen representing Marseille and Tottenham before joining his current club Besiktas. He has never represented the French senior team so far and can now represent Cameroon with his family ties and under FIFA's rules. The 27-year-old has also been applied to the Cameroon Football Association for inclusion in its national team. It was also supported by former national team great Samuel Itoo.
Nkoudou was nominated last week in coach Rigobert Song's preliminary squad for the qualifying matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in June. The team also includes the name of former Celtic midfielder Olivier Antecham, who has come to Came to Cameroon from France. Teams from Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland have also joined Cameroon's group at the World Cup in Qatar starting in November this year.
