Ever imagined getting fined for not wearing a helmet while driving a car? In Uttar Pradesh, this unusual scenario has become a reality, leaving drivers puzzled. Recent cases highlight how motorists, including a journalist and a teacher, are facing hefty fines for not donning helmets in their cars, sparking confusion and debate over traffic regulations. What’s behind this strange enforcement, and is it a new rule or just a bureaucratic blunder? Let’s dive into this curious case of helmet fines for car drivers.

Now Uttar Pradesh, drivers are encountering an unusual issue involving traffic fines for not wearing helmets while driving cars. This strange situation came to light when a journalist, Tushar Saxena, received a Rs 1,000 fine for allegedly not wearing a helmet in his vehicle.

The incident dates back nine months when Saxena, who resides in Rampur, was fined while driving in Noida’s Gautam Buddh Nagar, located 188 km from his home. Saxena initially thought the fine was a mistake but later received follow-up communications urging him to either pay the fine or appear in court.

Saxena, who bought his Hyundai car in March of the previous year, is currently contesting the fine with Noida authorities. He has never driven his car to the NCR region and claims there is no traffic rule requiring helmet use in cars. Saxena has requested written clarification from the authorities on this matter.

This case follows a similar incident in June 2023, where a government school teacher from Greater Noida received a Rs 1,000 fine for allegedly driving without a helmet. The teacher, Shailja Chaudhary, was perplexed when she received an electronic challan for a bike, despite not owning a motorcycle. She initially thought the fine was due to a relative’s traffic violation but was surprised to find it issued under her car's registration number.

These cases highlight a growing concern over traffic enforcement practices and the need for clear communication regarding traffic regulations.
