Ayodhya: At Ramghat is the residence of the chief priest of Ramlala. A door as big as the arena, from where a man sitting on an elephant can go inside and his head does not hit the door frame. The house is painted in Mahaviri colours, more than half of the walls are also painted in the same colour. Inside there was a room with a sofa, along with a bed covered with a vermillion colored sheet. There are posters of the film at the back, one in the name of Ramdas, the other in praise of Ram. Not only this, this story is also filmy. The story of the priest sitting on the throne, wearing saffron robes, long beard and white roli-yellow sandalwood tilak begins from March 1, 1992. The old priest Laldas Mahant was evicted.

It is said that his actions were not at all favorable to the priest. And, then Satyendra Das, a disciple of Maharaj Abhiram Das ji and a Sanskrit school teacher who installed Ramlala inside the dome in 1949, was also made the priest of Ramlala. Everything was going well from March to December. Then the date came December 6, 1992. There was a crowd of kar sevaks. Preparations were going on to demolish the dome. Satyendra Das was asked to bring down the curtain after offering it to Ramlala. Satyendra Das says, instead of eating puri, vegetables, pulses and rice during the day, Ramlala was offered only fruits and milk. There was a fear that Ram Lalla might get harmed while demolishing the disputed structure, so with the help of assistant priests and some kar sevaks, Ram Lalla was lifted along with the throne and brought to a safe place under a nearby Neem tree.

Now Ramlala started being worshiped in tents and tarpaulins, not under the dome. The priest was Satyendra Das. He recalls that many times the administration did not provide as much food and drink as was demanded. At that time, he used to bring food from his teacher's salary only. He used to request the administration to get Ram Lalla's clothes stitched twice every year, but the DM would just send new clothes on Ram Navami. Today Ramlala used to wear new clothes every day. Ramlala lived in tarpaulin for 28 years. Satyendra Das says, the worst feeling was when the tarpaulin got torn in the rain and permission had to be taken from the Supreme Court to replace the torn tarpaulin. Water would enter inside and even Ramlala's clothes would get wet.

In the terrible heat, there was only one fan for Ramlala, they did not even provide a cooler. And only one quilt for Ramlala who was shivering in the cold. Priest Satyendra Das along with his assistants were somehow concentrating on Ramlala. At that time he had four assistants. Now when Ramlala is about to move to his new home, training of 20-25 new priests is also going on for posting there. The pundits of Kashi are teaching and explaining them. Will there be any difference between the earlier priest and the newly trained priest, will the worship change, will Ramlala no longer be able to enjoy the same. The questions to the head priest of the country's most famous temple were not ending. Satyendra Das says, there will not be only Ramlala in the temple, there are going to be 16 more temples, many gods too, there will be more people visiting, hence more priests are going to be needed. The only thing that will not change is Ramlala's Bhog, Raga, Seva, Puja, Archana, Aarti and Ramdhun.
