New Delhi: The 15-member Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2021 has been announced. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has not found a place in the team. Dhawan captained Team India on the recent tour of Sri Lanka. Dhawan has also been the highest run-scorer in the first leg of IPL-14 (2021). Dhawan scored 380 runs for Delhi Capitals (DC) in eight matches at an average of 54.28 and a strike rate of 134.27. He scored three half-centuries with his bat and his high score was 92 runs. In such a situation, not being selected for the team is raising questions in the minds of his fans.

Indeed, practically it was difficult for Shikhar Dhawan to make it to the team. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the names who have been giving the team a great start. It would have been unwise to push Rahul to the lower order in the best touch he has been in. At the same time, it can also spoil the balance of the team. If the T20 World Cup had been held outside Asia, Dhawan might have joined the opener's team with his huge experience. If either Rohit or Rahul is injured, the team management can ask either Ishan Kishan or Suryakumar Yadav to start the innings. Suryakumar has often batted at No.3, while Kishan has opened the innings for his franchise Mumbai Indians. The team also has the option of captain Virat Kohli, who has started the innings several times for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Dhawan takes his innings forward just like ODI in T20 matches. He plays well in the early overs of the game, which keeps his strike rate slightly lower. This method is perfect for 50 overs, but it is not considered suitable for 20 over formats. However, this opening batsman of Delhi Capitals has improved his start pace as well as increased his strike rate. Dhawan has scored runs at a strike rate of over 134 in the last four IPL seasons. In IPL 2020, he scored runs at a strike rate of 144.73.

India's T20 World Cup squad:
