Why not punish those who abuse Lord Ram and Mother Sita? Questions raised over Kalicharan Maharaj's arrest

New Delhi: The case is not going to cool down after Chhattisgarh Police arrested Kalicharan Maharaj following a statement on Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Now, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Yatindranandgiri of Juna Akhara has responded to the issue and asked if the government is really so sensitive, take action against those who make fun of Lord Ram and Sita Mata and call them adulterers.

Swami Yatindranandgiri has said that the saint community does not support any comment made by Kalicharan Maharaj on Gandhi. Gandhiji is respected, but in this country, the most revered Lord Ram is abused day in and day out and Sita Mata is called an adulterer. They are ridiculed in TV serials and films, nude pictures of gods and goddesses are made. Why doesn't anyone say anything at that time? Why are they not dealt with? Gandhiji's contribution to the upholding of non-violence in the Indian freedom movement is respectable. The saint also recalled that many revolutionaries had sacrificed and needed to be remembered even before Gandhiji came to India from Africa.

He said that no single person can be credited for the freedom struggle. Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Veer Savarkar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and many others were involved in that battle. Swamiji supported Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanandsaraswati of Dwarka Peeth and said, "He has said very well that respect and regard have a place. But there can be no one greater than the nation. If there is anyone greater than the nation, he is the Supreme Soul. Gandhi can be the son of the nation, not the 'Father of the Nation'.''
