Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old woman set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her and her two minor children at her residence at Preet Vihar in the Mudarnagar area of Ghaziabad. According to sources, the incident is being reported Wednesday. The woman and her two-year-old daughter died on the spot and her five-year-old son survived.

The woman was identified as Deepa and her children were named Rina and Lalit. Lalit is still seriously injured. According to a report, the incident took place around 4 p.m. on Wednesday evening when Dipa's in-laws and husband were not at home. Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadoon said that due to a domestic dispute with her husband, the woman locked herself in the room with her two children and set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her own and on children.

His son somehow managed to open the door and kept shouting for help. Meanwhile, the neighbours rushed to rescue them, but Dipa and Reina died on the spot due to serious burns. The police further said that after a fight between her husband and wife, the husband had slapped Dipa. Husband Kailash works in a handloom factory in Muradnagar.

The SP further said that Lalit has survived. He is currently undergoing treatment and has been severely scorched but is likely to survive. Both the bodies have been sent for post mortem and the report is awaited for further investigation in the case.
