Babri Masjid case: Muslim lawyer Zafaryab Jilani passes away

Lucknow: Zafaryab Jilani, a member of the Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), has passed away. He was also a well-known senior advocate of Lucknow. Jilani has been the head of Babri Masjid Action Committee and Additional Advocate General of UP. Jilani was running ill for a long time. He was undergoing treatment at Nishat Hospital in Lalbagh. He also had a brain haemorrhage two years ago. After that he was fine.

Jilani is no more a politician, but his name was always in the headlines. He was a lawyer on behalf of the Muslim side in the Ram Mandir case. Jilani has also been associated with many educational institutions in Lucknow. He is a contributor to the trust of Mumtaz Degree College. A wave of mourning has run in the city of Tehzeeb since his death. After hearing the news of his death on social media itself, people are remembering his works and paying tribute to him.

His name was famous in the streets of Aminabad. A Mumtaz market is also located here. That too is said to be of Geelani. Jilani has never been a part of any political party. However, he is a relative of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan. In the Ayodhya case, Jilani consistently presented the Muslim side in the court. When the decision of the Supreme Court came, he was made the coordinator of the Babri Masjid Action Committee. Zafaryab Jilani's son Nazam Zafaryab has confirmed his death. He was undergoing treatment at Nishad Hospital in Lucknow. This is where he breathed his last. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
