Indonesia: The time has come to end Russia's "catastrophic" war and "save thousands of lives", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address to the G20 summit in Bali on Tuesday.

"I believe now is the time when the Russian war of extermination can be stopped and stopped," he said, according to a speech obtained by AFP. It will spare countless lives.

Zelensky addressed world leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and US Vice President Joe Biden, while donning his now famous army green T-shirt and speaking in Ukrainian.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin was not present as he avoided the meeting and instead sent his Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, to Bali.

Zelensky criticized Putin's ominous rhetoric, which "has alarmed even Beijing, citing the insane threats of nuclear weapons that Russian officials resort to."

He said there was no justification for nuclear blackmail and thanked the "G19" (which excludes Russia) in particular for "clarifying it".

Ukraine's premier also demanded that a grain deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey, which expires on November 19, be extended indefinitely.

Ukraine is one of the world's top grain producers, and until the agreement in July, the Russian invasion had blocked 20 million tonnes of grain from entering its ports.

Zelensky argued for the expansion of the Export Grain Initiative to more ports, saying "I believe our Export Grain Initiative deserves an indefinite extension – no matter when the war ends."

Furthermore, the Ukrainian leader alleged that Russia was conducting a campaign of airstrikes against critical infrastructure in preparation for the upcoming winter in an "attempt to turn the cold into a weapon".

Zelensky supported a US-led effort to impose a price cap on Russian oil exports, saying it was necessary "to prevent the use of energy resources as weapons".

“If Russia is attempting to deny predictability and price stability to consumers of energy in Ukraine, Europe and around the world, the solution should be a forcible cap of export prices for Russia.”
