A man from Salem committed suicide along with his family after they were pushed to poverty due to the unfair behavior of a few people who inadvertently took their lives away. The deceased were identified as K Sivaraman, 77, of Kalarampatty, his wife Pushpa, 66, and their elder son Babu, 45, who was blind. Sivaraman was employed as a nursing assistant with a clinic at Gugai.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, Around 9 am when no one came out of Sivaraman’s house, neighbors grew suspicious and knocked on the main door there was no response from inside. One of them then peeped throw a window gap and found Sivaraman, his wife and son on the floor with Frothing at the mouth. They immediately alerted the Shevapet police, who broke open the door and sent the bodies to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College hospital for postmortem.

During the investigation, police learned that “Sivaraman lend money to several people and charge an interest for the same, which the indebted people were required to pay to Sivaraman every month. The interest was apparently the only source of income for the family. However, people allegedly refused to return the borrowed money despite being requested numerous times by the victim. The family was eventually pushed to extreme poverty, which led Sivaraman, his wife, and their son to take the extreme step of consuming poison and ending their lives.” Police are taking a list of people who had borrowed money from Sivaraman. “We will take action against them if they are found guilty,” police said.
