DCW questions holdup in punishment of Nirbhaya case culprits

New Delhi [India], November 1 : The Delhi Commission for Women on Tuesday issued a notice to the Tihar Jail Administration and Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District questioning the postponement in the imposition of death sentence to the Nirbhaya case culprits.

"The insensitivity of this nature, on the part of the concerned authorities gives out a wrong message to the people of the country regarding justice and law", said DCW chairperson Swati Jaihind .

"The society and judiciary is trying to make more and more Nirbhayas", she asserted.

The notice has been issued after Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi made complaint to the DCW that even after five months of the Supreme Court's judgment; death sentence has not been passed out.

The notice questions the holdup in the action, as well as inquires whether the four accused, have been served with the notice of their awaiting punishment.

The Commission has asked the Tihar officials and the DCP to act in response to the notice before November 6.

The DCW chairperson further asserted that in the wake of numerous rape cases in our nation from that of a 100 year old woman to a one-year old girl, this notice will draw attention to how rape cases are dealt in our nation.

 

Jaihind also insisted that the rapists must be hanged to death immediately.
