HC issues notice, social media accused of disclosing rape victim identity

On Friday, the Delhi High Court has issued a legal notice to the social media platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and others. These social media sites are accused of disclosing the identity of Kathua gang-rape victim. The legal notice is issued after these sites Indian subsidiaries informed the court that they are not concerned entity to reply to court's notice.

According to the reports published in ANI, the court will once more hear the related matter on this May 29. Meanwhile, earlier, the Delhi High Court had put a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs on each media house who had revealed the identity of the Kathua gang-rape victim.

Further, in the case, the court has also announced that who so ever will disclose or reveal the rape victim's identity in any way will be imprisoned for almost six months. 

On the date, April 13, the High Court had issued a legal notice to the various media houses for revealing the identity of the rape victim's. Earlier in January, the 8-year-old minor girl, who belonged to a nomadic Muslim tribe was first kidnapped, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and then murdered in Kathua. The reason for rape has been identified as religion basis.
