J.K. Simmons discusses his role in 'The Bachelors'

Washington D.C. [USA]:  Actor J.K. Simmons, who plays a grieving widower grappling with depression in 'The Bachelors,' says his 'life experiences with unhappiness and gloominess geared up him for the role.

The actor also gives credits the occurrences of people close to him who have also treaty with those problems in getting prepared for the role.

"As far as playing the reality of it, I felt like I had the adequate life experience to enlighten what I was doing," the Academy Award victor asserted.

Simmons further added that his approach to the character was twofold: faith on his director and trust him.

"I knew that Kurt Voelker, the writer-director of the film had done detailed research in terms of ECT [electroconvulsive treatment, which is used as part of his character's cure for depression] and the technical details of how things may or may not be treated and how they're portrayed."

The 'Whiplash' star tells that he hopes it eventually ember some debate.

"I hope audience’s walk away feeling that they've been entertained and pleased and maybe open-minded a little bit and maybe even with a discussion about whether the path that Bill, my character, found himself directed toward was the right direction or whether he should have done something else," he emphasizes. "I hope that there's at least a little bit of a kind of debate going."
