Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 1, Kerala Police have arrested 21 persons and filed 25 cases in connection with Operation 'P-Hunt' launched to crack down on child pornography. The statewide search and arrest were initiated following a report from Interpol that child abuse materials are being disseminated and exchanged through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram in the State, official sources said.
The team, which launched the operation under ADGP (south zone) and head of Cyberdome Manoj Abraham, conducted simultaneous raids across Kerala early on Sunday and it is still progressing. State police chief Loknath Behera said that the raids were conducted using technical expertise of the state police team to identify the log details of those who are browsing and sharing child pornographic material.
During the raid, the police seized several laptops, mobile phone and other gadgets from 29 locations. The accused had allegedly shared nude pictures of children on social media. The police have sought help from cyber experts from the IT Park in Thiruvananthapuram called ‘Technopark’. The details of those arrested would be released later since the investigation is still on. The team works closely with Interpol’s crimes against children unit and International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that had trained the team and provided all digital resources to track down suspects viewing, selling and distributing child porn.
