Punishment to be decided by the court for Kopardi gang rape case criminals

A special court will pronounce its verdict on the culprits of Maharashtra's famous Kopardi rape and murder. Three accused of this case have been convicted. The body of a 15-year-old student was found on July 13 in Kopardi village of Ahmednagar district.

The culprits had corrode the body after the gangrape.  In connection with this ruthless massacre, the police arrested Jindendra Babu Lal Shinde, Santosh Gorakh Bhawal and Nitin Gopinath Bhailuma. Ahmednagar police filed more than 350 pages of chargesheets in the court. All three were charged under Section 302 of IPC and 376 of the IPC and related sections of the Poxo law. 

On Saturday, three accused of this case have been convicted. Jinnendra, the lawyer of Chief convict Jindendra Babu Lal Shinde, argued in the court that Jitendra is only a 26 year old youth who is responsible for his poor family. There is no criminal case before Jitendra. The defendant's lawyer has demanded a minimum punishment. 

After this incident on July 13, 2016, the Maratha society was stirred in the entire state. After this incident, the Maratha community had brought large rallies in various cities by adding the issue of Maratha reservation with this issue.

Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam after the verdict said, “The verdict is based entirely on strong circumstantial evidences. The court found the accused guilty of conspiring, raping and murdering the victim. The court accepted the evidence produced by us and pronounced them guilty. Though there were no eyewitnesses in the case, the forensic tests proved that the blood stains of the victim were found on the clothes of the convict,” Nikam added.
