Amritsar: Farmers' resentment against the Centre's Modi government's agriculture bill continues to grow. Farmers from Haryana and Punjab are on the streets and demanding withdrawal of three agriculture related bills. Meanwhile, a farmer who was protesting in Badal village in Muktsar, Punjab, tried to commit suicide by consuming poisoning. The farmer was protesting outside the residence of former CM Parkash Singh Badal.

A farmer named Pritam Singh, who was sitting on a dharna outside the residence of former CM Parkash Singh Badal, is said to have consumed poison at 6:30 am this morning. He is a resident of the Akali village of Mansa. Pritam Singh was first admitted to a government hospital in Badal village for treatment. He has since been referred to Max Hospital in Bathinda. His condition remains fragile.

The entire controversy is about those three agricultural bills of the centre. This includes the Agricultural Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, Price Assurance and Farmers (Protection and Empowerment Bill) on Agricultural Services and the Essential Commodities Amendment Bill. With these ordinances saying that minimum support price is the only source of income for farmers, the ordinance will also eliminate it. It is said that these ordinances are clearly going to abolish the existing market system.
