New Delhi: Seven days have passed since Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was cancelled, but the party has not yet filed an appeal in the matter in the higher court. Regarding this, now Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has attacked his own party. He said that the Congress could not even file an 'appeal' in court for its biggest 'leader' in a week.
Acharya Pramod also mentioned Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda without naming him. He said that the party had reached the 'Supreme' Court in an hour for a 'spokesperson', but had been silent for a week for the party's biggest leader. The Surat court had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in the defamation case last Friday (March 24), terming him a criminal. After this decision, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has cancelled the membership of Rahul Gandhi in the Parliament. According to the Representation of the People Act, if MPs and MLAs are punished for 2 years or more in any case, then their membership (in Parliament and the Legislative Assembly) is cancelled.
Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership has expired. However, all avenues have not been closed for Rahul to retain his membership. They can challenge their relief in the High Court, where the membership can be saved if the Surat Sessions Court order is stayed. If the High Court does not grant a stay, then the door of the Supreme Court will have to be approached. In such a situation, even if a stay is obtained from the Supreme Court, his membership can be saved. But if he does not get relief from the upper court, then Rahul Gandhi will not be able to contest any election for 8 years. Rahul Gandhi was elected MP from Wayanad in 2019.
