New Delhi: The Aircraft Amendment Bill, 2020 has been passed by the Rajya Sabha. Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, the bill will make three regulatory bodies, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Civil Aviation Safety Office and Aircraft Accident Investigation Office more effective in the civil aviation sector in India.

The Union minister said that the bill will help in increasing the level of safety of air operations in the country. The bill will change the Aircraft Act 1934 and increase the ceiling on the penalty amount. Now, the maximum penalty limit is Rs. 10 lakhs, which has been increased to Rs. 1 crore in the bill. At the same time, the penalty amount in addition to the punishment was Rs. 10 lakh in addition to the punishment for carrying arms, ammunition or such items or endangering the safety of the aircraft in any way.

The amount of fines has been increased from Rs. 10 lakh to one crore by changing the aircraft bill.  Congress MP KC Venugopal protests over aircraft Amendment Bill.  Accusing the Modi government, he said that this PPP model can be used to make a variety of scams in the name of developing the airport. BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao defended the bill.
