Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University account has been sealed by Aligarh Municipal Corporation. Actually, AMU has not collected a property tax of about Rs 15 crore. After this, the team under the leadership of Vinay Kumar Rai, the chief taxing officer of the Municipal Corporation, has seized the State Bank of India (SBI) account of AMU.

According to the Chief Taxing Officer Vinay Kumar Rai, the total rupees, including the arrears and interest due to the property tax of the Aligarh Municipal Corporation on AMU is about Rs 14.83 lakh crore till 31.03.2021, whose bill was sent by the Municipal Corporation to the AMU administration. Property tax was not deposited even after repeated notices. Chief Assessing Officer Vinay Kumar Rai said that due to non-payment, U.P. The account operated by AMU, Aligarh has been attached/seized with immediate effect by the Municipal Corporation, Aligarh, exercising the powers conferred under the relevant sections 507, 509 and 513 of the Municipal Corporation Act 1959.

Chief Assessing Officer Vinay Kumar told that this arrear is about 8 years ago. For this, the account was seized in the year 2019 also. The government had also written to the AMU to make it tax-free, but there was no relief from them and orders for recovery were received.
