The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to postpone voting dates in the northeastern state once more.

The AMCO will send a notice to the poll panel requesting that the first round of assembly elections be rescheduled on February 27. They have declared that the day is a Sunday and that it is a day of prayer for the Christian community. On Thursday, Christian denominational leaders convened for a meeting.

On January 17, representatives of the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) presented a memorandum to Manipur's CEO seeking that the date be changed. The meeting resolved to send a reminder to ECI to change the first phase polling date, which falls on Sunday, according to AMCO president S Prim Vaiphei. "If ECI does not reschedule, the meeting decided to go to court," he stated.

"The Christian community will not be complacent, but will continue to fight for Christian rights," Vaiphei continued.
