Big blow to power consumers, regulatory commission going to take this big decision

Dehradun: Uttarakhand's big power consumers may face another blow. A request from THE UPCL has been filed in the regulatory commission to impose an additional surcharge of 6 months on large companies buying power from Open Access, on which the commission is going to make a decision soon.

In fact, there are many such companies in Uttarakhand which buy electricity at affordable prices from outside states in addition to UPCL. The reason for this is that they get cheap electricity from many states. Due to this open exchange, UPCL loses crores of rupees every year as UPCL has made all the arrangements for power supply to these companies.

Large plants or companies above 100 kW can avail of this facility. Upcl suffers from this, for reimbursement of which the UPCL management has approached the regulatory commission. The UPCL has demanded that an additional surcharge be levied on taking power from outside between April and September so that the loss to UPCL can be reimbursed somewhere. The Regulatory Commission has taken the suggestions of all stakeholders on the proposal. A decision on this will now be taken by the Commission.
