Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that he will surrender himself on June 2. Despite the challenges he might face in jail, he firmly stated that he will not be broken or bow down. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until June 1 to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign. During this period, Kejriwal campaigned across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, and Maharashtra.
"I will surrender on June 2, and I have no idea how long I will remain in jail this time. I am going to jail to save this country from dictatorship, and I am proud of it," Kejriwal said in a virtual press conference.
Kejriwal shared his experiences of being mistreated during his previous jail time. "They tried to break me. They even stopped my medicines while I was in jail. My weight dropped by six kilograms, from 70 kg at the time of arrest. I haven't regained that weight since being released," he revealed.
Doctors have advised Kejriwal to undergo several tests, suspecting a potential underlying medical condition.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that he will leave his residence around 3 p.m. on Sunday to surrender at Tihar jail. "They will try to harass me more, but I will not bow down. Even after going back to jail, I will be thinking about you (the people). I assure you that your services won't be interrupted. I will soon begin providing Rs 1,000 monthly to my mothers and sisters," he said,
Kejriwal concluded by requesting people to pray for his ailing mother.
