Lucknow: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and mafia Atiq Ahmed and jailed mafia Mukhtar Ansari have also encroached on the land of the Waqf Board. Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) has written a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath requesting in this regard. The Waqf Board has requested CM Yogi's intervention to free the lands occupied by the mafia.

According to media reports, the board has written a letter to the Yogi government, pleading to free large chunks of land and properties occupied by both the mafias and their families. It has been said in the letter that gangster Atiq Ahmed's henchmen have illegally occupied several bighas of land in Chhoti Karbala of Imambara Ghulam Haider in Prayagraj. The Mutavalli of Alal Aulad Waqf in Saadatganj area of Lucknow has complained that 10-12 bighas of Waqf land are illegally occupied.

Mutavalli has also been quoted as saying that Afshan Ansari, wife of Mafia Mukhtar Ansari, is the director of the firm, which got the plots done on the lands through illegal registry. The officials of the Shia Waqf Board have also alleged that they have written several letters to the local administration for removal of illegal encroachment from the land of Chhota Karbala in Prayagraj, but no hearing has taken place. However, it is worth noting that the role of Atiq Ahmed and his gang in usurping lands belonging to the Waqf Board has come to the fore after the death of the mafia. Till now most of the victims were silent due to fear of Atiq.

Let us tell you that this matter has come to the fore at a time when the Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating the properties acquired illegally. Investigation revealed that the slain mafioso-gangster had usurped Waqf properties for his commercial use. Let us tell you that earlier in 2016, the UP Police had registered an FIR against a close aide of Atiq for the crime of usurping Waqf property in Chak area on Zero Road in Prayagraj. His relative had illegally encroached upon the Waqf property. Presently that land is being used to sell construction material.

In the past, the head of the Shia Central Waqf Board, Ali Zaidi, while disclosing the occupation of the mafias on the Waqf property, said that, 'Capturing the Waqf property is the easiest task for the mafias. Atiq Ahmed had built a complex by occupying the Waqf property. A plot was done on a property of our Waqf by making fake documents and registering a company illegally, in which Mukhtar Ansari's wife Afsha Ansari was the director. The value of this land is in crores. We have written to the administration regarding this and have sought help from the government to resolve these issues.'

Let us tell you that, recently there were reports that the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is building houses for the poor on the land seized from the mafias in the state. It has been started with the land freed from the possession of deceased mafia Atiq Ahmed in Prayagraj.
