A self-taught artist from India, performer of a-2500-yr old art form, creator of secret symbolic language Bhavya Dixit is now taking the nation's cultural heritage artform Madhbani to global stage in the times of COVID-19.

Her works are now getting recognized in the prestigious galleries around the world. Currently many of her works are being exhibited in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy - in one of the most important historical museums for arts and culture, Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. A place where they host shows of noble stairs like Piccaso, Modigliani and Warhol.

Bhavya Says, “What drives me to perform painting is the stillness I extract from the art form Madhubani. Repeating intricate patterns, propels me to refine strokes, demanding to be extremely focused on the movement of each brush stroke in alignment with my breathing. And in that hour of the day when my hands are frozen and my mind reaches the pinnacle of self-talking and taking me to a state where silence and emptiness create extreme expansion and awareness for each movement. Gifting the experience of reaching the depth, where my childhood is providing meaning to these creations.”

Bhavya has always been extremely passionate about painting since childhood. She started her artistic career in a post production company at the age of 19. While pursuing law and taking multimedia courses simultaneously, she decided to follow her creative impulses to this artistic journey and moved to Mumbai in 2010 as a stereo compositor. Soon she achieved success as a stereo supervisor for her management skill, at the age of 21, she managed a team of 100 plus artists. Training 100s later in her career.

In the year 2016, she realized reaching a stagnation point in her career and got the opportunity to move to vancouver, Canada. One thing that stayed with her all along is the creative impulses and her desire to create paintings reflecting creations in nature and the beauty of monumental architecture in India. Even after having a successful career, she always felt incomplete and discontent. Years of constant pressure had Led to burnout and breakdown. After an extremely rough patch of 2 years, one day she questioned herself if she ever wanted to live again, what could be the one reason to do so? And since then she has dedicated her energy and attention to her passion for painting.

In 2017 she got her first commission, it was a black and white Madhubani painting she created for an astrophysicist based in London, it took her 2 years to complete it on a 40*60 inch canvas and ship it finally in 2019. She named the painting, “A million stroke odyssey”. The composition is a depiction of a forest representing harmony, balance and peaceful coexistence in nature. She received a lot of appreciation for that piece at work in Montreal and London.

Her mentors from Italy, Brazil and Spain convinced her throughout this transformation, to believe in oneself and have the courage to follow your heart, your inner calling. She says, “This self -awareness brings extreme consciousness to every action taken in the day, and how hours of extreme silence leads to ideas of creation. ”.

In 2019 she created a series of seven black and white paintings called “Memories from my childhood”. While working full time and managing her household responsibilities in the month of December, she decided to  tirelessly paint for approx. 600 hours in 40 days to complete her series. She set hourly, daily and weekly deadlines to achieve her goal, probably that part comes from her experience in post production for a decade.

These paintings are a medium through which she celebrates the presence of her grandfather in her childhood. Them travelling to places to explore ancient structures producing music from 56 pillars, carved underground medicinal wells, or dark caves deep in the woods. She says her grandfather developed her connection with nature, understanding the formation of the giant tree in the neighborhood, witnessing a dancing peacock in the rain in our backyard, or maybe just a simple act of watering plants in the morning.

While writing quotes and poems for her work, she says painting gives the answers to her questions of, “Why I am - who I am and what’s my purpose?” She shared with us  that she was never happy with all the titles she received at work, she didn’t ever create a signature for herself because that all is given. What she aimed for is to create her own definition and now she is extremely proud to call herself as the performer of a 2500-old artform from India, creator of a secret symbolic language and an eneryfield painter who sometimes loves to capture the beauty of performance arts.

Having taken many online courses including management courses from Harvard. She is now taking advantage of modern day technology and social media to build her fine art career. She participated in her first gallery presentation digitally at gallery Cael, in Milan, Italy curated by a highly recognized art director group, Divulgarti visual art group.

Her work is also now part of virtual gallery, SKT based in London and they created a Computer Generated gallery space providing an immersive platform to award winning artists from around the world giving experience of a physical gallery at the convenience of being at home.

She has been offered to participate in the contemporary art show, “Awaken Reflection” at  an important museum Palazzo Ducale, Genoa, Italy. Her works are also a part of a July show organized by Helvetart, an online platform based in Switzerland.
