Kolkata: Several houses have been torched after a man was killed in East Burdwan district of West Bengal. In fact, Manoj Ghosh had killed Utpal Ghosh, a fish trader, by chopping him with an ax after a scuffle on Sunday (3 April 2022). Loa was a resident of Santoshpur village under Galsi police station area of ​​Utpal district. Reports suggest that there was a mutual enmity between the two. Soon after the incident, the police detained five people including Manoj. He confessed to the murder, after which the police formally arrested him. Manoj and Utpal reportedly got into an argument. During this Manoj picked up the ax and killed Utpal. Police took Utpal's body in possession and sent it for post-mortem. When the body reached the village on Monday (4 April 2022), the villagers got angry and attacked the houses of Manoj, his uncle Khetranath Ghosh and Hardhan Ghosh. They set fire to straw outside their houses. The angry mob also set the vehicles parked near the houses on fire.

Police were already stationed at the spot at the time of the incident. But she could not control the crowd. Rapid Action Force (RAF) companies have been deployed to maintain law and order after the violence. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamnasish Sen said in a statement that Manoj Ghosh has been arrested on the charge of murder. The police have also arrested many people involved in the violence. He assured that soon all the culprits would be arrested. So far 39 people have been arrested in the case of violence and arson.
