Chandigarh: In a major reversal in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken over as mayor. BJP candidate Sarabjit Kaur has become the new mayor of Chandigarh. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has since emerged as the largest party in the body elections, has accused it of rigging the mayoral elections.

After the elections, all the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) corporators led by Arvind Kejriwal have sat on strike behind the mayor's chair. DC Vinay Pratap Singh has also been stopped on the spot. Marshals have been called within the municipal corporation and there is a lot of pushing. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor has also sat in the chair next to the mayor.

The BJP had grabbed 12 seats during the Chandigarh body elections. While the Aam Aadmi Party had won 14 seats, becoming the largest party. Devendra Singh Babla along with his newly elected corporator wife Harpreet Kaur Babla has taken over the BJP after being expelled from the Congress, while BJP MP from Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat Kirron Kher also has the right to cast one vote. Thus the BJP had 14 votes and its candidate became mayor. But The AAP is not ready to accept and its councillors have started creating ruckus in the municipal corporation.
