New Delhi: BJP MP Syed Zafar Islam on Wednesday said to repair the tomb of Brigadier Mohammed Osman, who was martyred in the first Indo-Pak war of 1947-48, in a broken state in the country's capital Delhi. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP national spokesman Zafar Islam said in a statement that he will repair the tomb of this "great patriot" national hero on "personal" basis.
He further said, "As my party always respects the martyrs who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country, as a BJP MP I am committed to following that principle. I thank all those who brought this matter to my attention.” It is noteworthy that the tomb of Brigadier Usman was found in a damaged state. The cemetery in which this tomb is located comes under the jurisdiction of Jamia Millia Islamia in South Delhi.
While expressing disappointment over the condition of the tomb, the army also said that if the Jamia Millia University administration cannot take care of it, then the army is fully capable of doing it. However, the Jamia Millia Islamia University administration claims that it is responsible for the boundary and cleanliness of the cemetery and the graves are taken care of by the concerned family members.
