Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a man hit his girlfriend's head with a rock after she refused to have sex in the country's financial capital Mumbai. The incident took place in Bandra, Mumbai. The incident took place on Wednesday when the two men had gone to the Bandra bandstand, police said. The criminal, Akash Mukherjee, a resident of Kalyan on the outskirts of Mumbai, and his female friend (28) were together for several years and worked in the same company, police said. According to police, the duo reached Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from Kalyan by a local train on Wednesday and went to tourist spots like Gateway of India and Girgaum Chowpatty before heading to Bandra Bandstand in the evening. After some time, Mukherjee told his girlfriend that he had converted to the woman's religion to get married, an official said.
Thereafter, he made an unreasonable demand from the woman and when the woman refused, Mukherjee tried to strangle her and banged her head against a rock. According to the officer, the culprit also tried to drown the woman in a drain, but when the woman screamed, the people informed the police. The police arrested the culprit and sent the woman to the hospital. Based on the girl's statement, the Bandra police arrested Mukherjee on charges of attempt to murder. The condition of the critically injured woman is now stable, the officer said.
