PARIS: In pre-World Cup international friendlies on Tuesday, Lionel Messi helped Argentina defeat Jamaica 3-0 and Raphinha scored twice as Brazil easily defeated Tunisia 5-1.

In Paris, Raphinha of Barcelona scored a header in the 10th minute to give Brazil the lead.  A header from Montassar Talbi gave Tunisia the advantage seven minutes later.

Richarlison did, however, assist Brazil in regaining the lead in the 18th minute, and Neymar's penalty on the half-hour increased the lead. Raphinha scored his second goal just before halftime to make it 4-1.  In the second half, Brazil continued to rule. Pedro's stunning volley in the 74th minute gave the Selecao the victory.

The top-ranked team in the world  Brazil, was placed in World Cup Group G together with Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

Julian Alvarez of Manchester City scored Argentina's first goal against Jamaica. Lionel Messi scored a brace in the second half after joining the game off the bench. Argentina was placed in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland.

Other 2022 World Cup hosts' warm-up matches were Uruguay's 2-0 victory over Canada, Qatar's 2-2 tie with Chile, and Saudi Arabia's goalless draw with the United States.

Argentina defeated Jamaica 3-0 thanks to two goals from Messi in the dying minutes.

The Albiceleste took the lead in the 13th minute at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey thanks to a close-range goal from Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, who had made an excellent run and cutback.

Despite having the majority of the possession, Argentina found it difficult to score against Jamaica's solid defence. In the 56th minute, Messi came off the bench, and that was when things changed. The two-time world champions started to seem more dangerous, and Messi took advantage of shoddy defending in the 86th minute to extend his team's lead.

Three minutes later, the former Paris Saint-Germain player made it 3-0 with a low free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box that surprised goalkeeper Andre Blake.

The South American team will face the United Arab Emirates on November 16 for one final opportunity to put their team to the test before the World Cup. The competition, which will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, did not accept Jamaica as a participant.
