New Delhi: In the national capital, on Wednesday, August 31, ie, today is the last day of the controversial new excise policy, and under this, Buy one get one free bottle, is being offered in liquor shops today. Actually, from September 1, the old excise policy will be implemented again. After which 500 government liquor shops will sell liquor.

The Excise Department has also swung into action as the hour of change in the sale system of liquor is approaching. The process of meetings has started in the Excise Department. According to department insiders, initially around 500 government liquor shops will be opened. In the coming days, preparations are being made to increase the number of shops to 700. According to the sources of the Excise Department, till now around 80 wholesalers and producers have registered about 500 different brands. With this, liquor lovers will be able to get their favourite brand.

In the old policy, only these four government agencies named DSIIDC, DCCWS and DSCSC, and DTTDC, which run liquor shops, will operate the shops. Along with this, the Excise Department has given permission to about 4 microbreweries, which will be able to sell beer in Delhi. No microbreweries were able to operate in the city after the new liquor policy came into force from November 17, 2021. However, before that, there were two microbreweries operating at Janpad Road and Connaught Place.
