HYDERABAD: Police in Telangana's Vikarabad district have filed a case against a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) for allegedly insulting and threatening a police officer. A case has been filed against MLC and former minister P. Mahender Reddy at Tandur police station after Circle Inspector Rajender Reddy filed a complaint.
Rajender Reddy claimed that the legislator intimidated and abused him in an attempt to prevent him from doing his official duties. Mahender Reddy has been charged, according to Vikarabad Superintendent of Police N. Koti Reddy.
Sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing his duties), 504 (Intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace), and 506 (Intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code have been filed against the TRS leader (Criminal intimidation).
An audio clip of a telephonic conversation went viral, prompting the filing of the case. The caller is heard criticising Rajender Reddy of Tandur town, claiming to be Mahender Reddy.
The MLC was overheard querying the police officer about boisterous sheeters who had recently attended a temple session. The officer's explanation that the persons in issue were following local MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy did not convince him. The politician went so far as to challenge the cop to record the call, claiming that the recording would have no bearing on him.
Even if the Circle Inspector is relocated to another location, the caller threatened him with grave consequences. He went so far as to accuse the cop of illegal sand transportation and threaten to capture him red-handed.
