The government of India has given assistance to 6 regions of the country in addition to Rs 4381 crore. A total of 6 states, including Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, have been provided with the help of natural calamities. The High-Level Committee, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has allowed this additional assistance. In states like West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, storms like Amphan, Nisarg have come this year, Karnataka, MP have suffered floods and landslides in Sikkim have suffered a lot. This assistance has been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the National Disaster Response Fund.
It has provided assistance of Rs 2707.77 crore for West Bengal, where the damage was caused by the storm of Amphan. Rs 128.23 crore has been given to Odisha. 268.59 crores have been given to Maharashtra which was affected by the storm. States affected by floods and landslides have also been provided assistance, Rs 577.84 crore to Karnataka, Rs 611.61 crore to MP, and Rs 87.84 crore to Sikkim.
In May this year, in the midst of COVID-19 crisis, the storm Amphan caused havoc in Bengal and Odisha, after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited both the states. Prime Minister Modi then announced an immediate assistance of 1000 crores for Bengal, 500 crores for Odisha with immediate effect.
