Central government rebuke Kerala government after giving relaxation in lockdown

Kochi: The strictness of the central government regarding the applicable lockdown guidelines across the country has put the left government of Kerala on the back foot. The Kerala government is now again churning on the relaxation given in the lockdown. Today CM Pinarayi Vijayan of the state can declare in this regard.

While announcing the second phase of lockdown on 14 April, PM Narendra Modi had also said that with the conditions will be relaxed from 20 April. Following this announcement by PM Modi, guidelines were issued by the Union Home Ministry on how to give relaxation in lockdown. Following these guidelines, some states have started giving relaxation in lockdown from today. In the process, the Kerala government had decided to provide some relief which was not in accordance with the guidelines of the MHA, ignoring the guidelines of the Center.

The Vijayan government also approved services such as eating in restaurants, bus service for short distances, seating of two people in the back seat of a car, sitting on the back seat of a scooter and saloon. The Central Government expressed its displeasure over this and the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a letter to the Government of Kerala and said that the guidelines were violated. On behalf of the central government, it was said that the Kerala government has also decided to give such relaxation in lockdown which violates the guidelines issued on 15 April.
