The second round of talks between India and Pakistan on the Kartarpur corridor is being held at Attari Wagah border in Pakistan today. Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Mohaamad Faisal said that the government is not in a position to participate in the meeting. A delegation of 20 Pakistani officials led by Mohammad Faisal has arrived. India wants Pakistan to construct a bridge in the creek area in its part of the Kartarpur corridor, but Pakistan is not ready for it. Officials from the right countries are meeting to remove the screw that has been stuck in the corridor. While India has completed nearly 60 per cent of the corridors in its share, Pakistan has claimed to have completed 80 per cent of the corridor in its territory.

The corridor is about 4.70 km long, letting you know for your information. It is being built for Sikh devotees visiting Sri Kartarpur Gurudwara Sahib. This will enable 5,000 devotees from India to visit Sri Kartarpur Sahib every day. The corridor will be launched in November this year on the occasion of the 550th festival of Shri Guru Nanakdev Ji. The 550th festival of Shri Guru Nanakdev Ji is on 12th November.

According to media reports, India wants Pakistan to construct a bridge in the creek area of the corridor, but Pakistan is not ready for it. India is reportedly in favour of constructing a one-km-long bridge over the river Ravi, but it is talking about building a pakroad here. Indian officials are objecting to the construction of the road citing fears of flooding caused by the river.

The history of the Kartarpur corridor

In 1522 Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji established the Gurudwara and decided to live like a farmer. In 1539 Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji renounced his body and succeeded Guru Angad Dev. During the partition, the Gurdaspur district was also divided into two parts and Garudwara Kartarpur Sahib moved to Pakistan.The bridge over the Ravi river connecting Narowal in Pakistan and Gurdaspur in India was destroyed in the Indo-Pak war. The Government of Pakistan repaired the Gurudwara. Pakistan announces visa free visit to Kartarpur.
