Dehradun: Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, secretary of the state health department, has released a health advisory for pilgrims as the Char Dham Yatra is about to begin in Uttarakhand in three days.

The health advisory is issued in light  of the mounting effect of Covid-19 and the weather in the high Himalayan region.
In the regulations issued by the government, it has been noted that all the pilgrimage sites are located in the high Himalayan region, whose height is over 2,700 meters above sea level. Extreme cold, low humidity, intense Ultraviolet radiation, low air pressure, and low oxygen content can all have an impact on travelers in those areas. Therefore, it is important that pilgrims abide by the instructions (Health Advisory) to ensure smooth and secure travel.

Before starting the Yatra, persons with pre-existing conditions should have a comprehensive physical test. They should also bring enough prescription medication, their doctor's contact information, and any necessary prescriptions.
The government suggests delaying or forgoing the trip for senior citizens, those with comorbid conditions, and those who have experienced COVID-19.

The warning recommended that senior citizens, persons with comorbid conditions, and people who had previously experienced COVID-19 consider postponing or forgoing the pilgrimage. The advisory suggested that Senior Citizens, people with comorbidities, and those who had suffered from COVID-19 in the past should consider postponing or not undertaking the pilgrimage."

It is urged that anyone experiencing headaches, drowsiness, or symptoms like nausea during the Yatra seek immediate medical attention. "Please seek medical attention immediately or contact the 104 and 108 helplines for assistance if you notice symptoms that include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, coughing, fast breathing, and increased heart rate," said the government health advisory. Avoid drinking and using other drugs, and don't smoke. Keep yourself well-hydrated and steer clear of going on an empty stomach, it added

"In case of emergencies, Helpline numbers [108 - National Ambulance Service and 104 - Uttarakhand Health Helpline] can be contacted," further describing the National Ambulance Service.

The auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya, April 22, marks the start of the Char Dham yatra. On April 25, the doors of Kedarnath Dham will open to pilgrims, and on April 27, those of Badrinath Dham.
