New Delhi: The customs department is taking new steps to thwart gold smuggling from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. On the other hand, smugglers are trying to smuggle in new ways to dodge security agencies deployed at the airport. A similar attempt on Monday was uncovered by the custom's air-preventive team.

The smugglers had prepared gold screws, keys and bell boxes to fulfil their nefarious designs. Moreover, the smugglers had prepared a gold garland and layered it with silver. Before the smugglers could succeed, Customs had detained them and sent them behind bars. According to a senior customs official, three Chinese-origin passengers from flight SG-32 of the Spice Jet, coming from Hong Kong, arrived at IGI Airport late Sunday night.

The Custom Air Preventive Team intercepted the three foreign nationals on the Green Channel for search. During the investigation, about 4520 grams of gold was recovered from their possession. priced at about Rs 1.42 crore in the international market. He said, this time the smugglers had adopted a very special method to dodge the airport security agencies. In which gold was made of other items including bell bucks, bracelets, screws. To avoid the grip of custom authorities, the smugglers had put a silver lining on all these items.
