Delhi police bust interstate gang of car lifters, 2 arrested

NEW DELHI: The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police announced on Monday that it had apprehended two men who were part of an interstate auto lifter gang operating out of Sambhal that had been targeting the national Capital to steal expensive luxury vehicles and SUVs.

Mohd. Danish (33) and Danish alias Raja (30), both citizens of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, were named as the accused. Also, five SUVs and high-end luxury cars were seized from the accused's hands by the police.

According to the official, the gang used to manufacture fake documentation after robbing expensive cars, and then they would sell the vehicles in Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and other North Eastern Indian states.
The police received information that car thieves from the Sambhal area, who operate in Delhi and only steal expensive vehicles, would travel to Okhla.

"Acting on informatons, a trap was laid and Mohd. Danish and Raja were arrested with a stolen bike while they were conducting a recce to steal a Fortuner car," said Ravindra Singh Yadav, the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Both of the accused admitted during questioning that they had stolen more than 50 high-end vehicles, which they afterwards sold in states in the North East. "Both are part of the Uttar Pradesh-based Sambhal auto lifter gang, together with Gulam and Idrish. After that, a special team from the Criminal Branch of the Southern Range was dispatched to the North Eastern states to recover the stolen automobiles. The team carried out searches in a number of Manipur and Nagaland locations and found the stolen vehicles "The Special CP added.

Both the accused also revealed that Gulam, who lives in Sambhal, is the kingpin of their gang. They used to steal the high-end cars from Delhi and took them to Sambhal where Danish and Gulam prepared fake documents and then they took the vehicle to Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and other states of North East India. They sold the cars to Juma Khan, Imran, Shahidur and Sagolsem Johnson in Manipur," said the Special CP.

The official said that further investigation is unferway and efforts are being made to recover more stolen vehicles and to arrest the remaining accused.
