style="text-align: justify;">Previous scenario: Dance bar is a place where adult entertainment is being done in the form of dances by females who entertain the male customers for cash. History In the starting dance bars used to be present at Maharashtra only but with the time dance bars spread across the country and in cities. The culture of dance bars started in Khalapur, in Raigad district, around 75 km from Mumbai, in the early 1980s. The first bar which functioned quietly at night was 'Baywatch' where around 500­600 dancers and bar girls was brought from different parts of Mumbai and Thane in buses to the venue in late afternoons to dance at night. Later, the boom of dance bars started growing which increased the number of dance bars about 3,000 employing 75,000 dancers.

The first raid on dance bars carried out by Mumbai police on 52 dance bars on 24th February 2005, and the second raid on 27 March 2005.

On 30th march 2005, ban was announced in Maharashtra State Assembly as according to members of assembly dance bars were corrupting the youth. It was around 1,400 bars with 1, 00,000 bar girls in the state at the time of ban.

Ban is implemented in Maharashtra from 15 august 2005, which results in unemployment of dancers who used to perform in dance bars. Almost all the bars girls were illiterate were out of work and there were not any another source for them to earn money. So, were forced to move to Gulf countries and South East Asian countries. Some bar girls were called to dance at private parties and also provide sexual favors there while some started doing mujras, some committed suicide as not able to found any other mode of income.

On 16 July 2013 the Supreme Court upheld the Bombay High Court verdict with the stay order which is for permitting to apply for their licenses band re­open.

In October 2015, The Supreme Court allowed dance bars to reopen.

Dresses and Dance types:

In dance bars, dancers wear different­ different types of clothes depend on state, types of dance they are performing. Usually the dance type is belly dancing, poll dancing, mujra etc. The bar dancers who performs mujra needs to wear courtesans. In maharashtra, dancers wear saree, lehnga choli. In Banglore, dancers wear western dresses. During the performance of dance by dancers at bar, male patrons sit in chairs lined up against the walls of the room, and the dancers need to make the targeted person feel special with the eye contact, gestures and acts. No bodily contact is allowed between the two. Male customers sometimes shower money on dancers.

Some facts about Dance bars:

 1. There was some attractive and wealthy bar dancers who collected properties worth of crores and others even struggled to sustain a respectful life. A wealthy dancer Tarannum was even raided by the Income Tax department for undisclosed income.

2. A movie “Chandni Bar" by Madhur Bhandarkar in 2001 showed the plight of bar dancers. The lead role was played by Tabu who won a National Award for her performance.

3. Dance bars were an inseparable part of Mumbai's night life. People from all age groups and classes visited those dance bars. The patrons, mostly youth or wealthy businessmen, tourists both domestic and international, enjoyed an "interactive" session with the dancers by showeringthem with currency notes.

4. Dance bars intrigued everybody with dancers grooving on blaring Bollywood numbers with colourful lights in a hazy air conditioned atmosphere which reeked of the smell of cigarette smoke and liquor, plus food.

 Recent Happening:

Supreme Court announces to issue licenses to dance bars. And also, he stated that it is better to dance than to beg. Dance girls can earn money with this profession but obscenity should not be there.

No cctv cameras or security cameras should be allowed at performance areas of dance bars is also stated by supreme court. But the government is not in favor to grant license to dance bar. As, some people think that it ruined the teenagers and adults life and also their money but what about the dancers who is struggling for the survival for their families just to earn a bug of money and not even having a reputation. No one wants to do this work with their desire but to do due to some restraints.
