Dehradun: Tremors have once again been felt in Uttarakhand. The earthquake struck 31 km west southwest of Joshimath at 5.58 am today. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale is 4.6. However, no loss of life or property has been reported due to the earthquake so far. Uttarakhand is very sensitive to earthquakes. Uttarakhand falls in zone 5 of the earthquake.

Due to this, strong tremors of the earthquake were felt in the cities of Chamoli, Pauri, Almora, etc. of Uttarakhand. However, due to the tremors of the earthquake, panic spread among the people and they came out of their homes. Earlier in August, an earthquake of 3.8 magnitudes struck Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Whereas on July 24, tremors of earthquake were felt in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand late at night. The magnitude of the earthquake was 3.4 on the Richter scale. An earthquake of 3.7 magnitudes was also felt in Pithoragarh, another hill district of Uttarakhand, east of Uttarkashi, on June 28. Then the epicenter of this earthquake was found 55 km away from Pithoragarh.

The same team of experts from IIT Roorkee has created the Uttarakhand Earthquake Alert App, which will alert when an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurs. At present, 71 sirens and 165 sensors have been installed when there is an earthquake in Uttarakhand. For the first time in the country, such a mobile app has been made in Uttarakhand, which will not only give a warning 20 seconds before the earthquake but will also tell the location of the people trapped after the earthquake. Uttarakhand Earthquake Alert App has been developed by the team of Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Uttarakhand, and IIT Roorkee.
