Surat: Counting of votes for 25 out of 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat commenced at 8 am, with Home Minister Amit Shah emerging as a frontrunner in the Gandhinagar constituency, leading by over six lakh votes by 2 pm. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also secured a lead in the Porbandar seat. According to the latest trends released by the Election Commission of India, the BJP is leading on 24 seats in Gujarat, while the Congress is ahead on one seat.

In a significant turn, BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared the unopposed winner from the Surat seat after the rejection of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani's nomination due to irregularities in the signatures of proposers. Voting for the remaining 25 seats was held on May 7 as part of the third phase of the seven-phase election.

Key candidates from prominent parties contested fiercely in Gujarat, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah against Congress' Sonal Patel in Gandhinagar. In other contests, BJP's Purushottam Rupala faced Congress' Paresh Dhanani in Rajkot, while Mansukh Mandaviya of the BJP competed against Congress' Lalitbhai Vasoya in Porbandar. Notable victories include Hasmukhbhai Patel's win in Ahmedabad East, Dineshbhai Makwana's triumph in Ahmedabad West (SC), and Bharatbhai Manubhai Sutaria's success in Amreli, among others.

The BJP demonstrated significant dominance across various constituencies, securing victories for candidates like Prabhubhai Nagarbhai Vasava in Bardoli (ST), Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhania in Bhavnagar, and Upendrakumar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kheda. Additionally, notable wins for other parties include Qadir Mehboob Syed from the SDPI in Navsari and Chandanji Talaji Thakor from Congress in Patan.

In a resounding electoral performance, the BJP showcased its stronghold in Gujarat, with a notable absence of significant challenges from opposing parties in most constituencies.
