Switzerland's tennis star Roger Federer and Spain's Rafael Nadal have also announced their participation in the Laver Cup to be held in September. Both the veteran tennis players have said that they are going to play in the upcoming phase of Laver Cup tennis tournament. Federer has been out of tennis since July with a knee injury while Nadal recently won a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Federer and Nadal have said in a statement that they are going to represent Team Europe in the tournament to be held in London. Federer's management company has started this competition. Where Federer has said about this that Nadal had suggested to him in a message last year that they would be able to play doubles together in the Laver Cup again. In the middle of the first Laver Cup in 2017, both of them have won the doubles match by making a pair. "If we're able to get on the court as a doubles pair again, it's going to be a really special experience for both of us at this stage of our careers," Nadal said.

Both did not play last year: This is going to be the 5th leg of the Laver Cup. Neither Federer nor Nadal took part in 2021. Federer, 40, hasn't played in a year-and-a-half after having three knee surgeries, before reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals on 7 July. Federer and Novak Djokovic are now tied with 20 Grand Slam titles. Before the Australian Open, Nadal was tied with both of them, but he has overtaken both of them by winning the trophy. Federer has said on this, "I am trying to return to the competition at the end of this year and the Laver Cup has also been part of my plan."
