New Delhi: Indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns used for first time for Independence Day ceremonial Gun Salute at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.

Previously, these guns had their inaugural appearance during the Republic Day parade earlier this year when they were employed for a 21-gun salute. These Indian-made guns have taken the place of the British 25-pounder guns that were in use before.

Notably, the 21-gun salute involves the use of specially designed cartridges or blank rounds to simulate the sound of firing, as opposed to actual shells being discharged.

In a ceremonial display, the Armed Forces and Delhi Police presented the Guard of Honour to Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the National flag was raised on the Red Fort's ramparts. Following this, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation, marking his 10th consecutive address.

As the Prime Minister hoisted the national flag, flower petals were gracefully showered at the venue from two Advanced Light Helicopters Mark-III Dhruv of the Indian Air Force.

The theme for this year's celebration is 'Nation First, Always First,' which is also a key aspect of the ongoing "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" festivities in honor of the 77th Independence Day.
