LUCKNOW: A 52-year-old lady was allegedly gang-raped by disciples at a temple-cum-ashram in Gomti Nagar police circle in a second incidence reported within 24 hours in Lucknow, according to police.
The woman reported the incident to the police, who then sent her for a medical checkup and launched a case against four people.
The victim said that the head of the ashram didn't offer her help and instead threatened her with life if she dared to report the matter to Police.
The incident allegedly occurred on October 4 in the evening, said the complainant. She had visited the ashram the previous month.
According to an FIR, the woman found the ashram through a "sanyasini" she had met earlier this year at the Magh mela in Prayagraj.
"Earlier I was staying at an ashram in Mathura. This woman was a guest at the ashram in Lucknow. She advised me to check into the ashram maintained by her guru. Last month, I moved there and began living there at the Lucknow Ashram. But after some time, the woman had to leave since her brother was ill and I was left alone in Varanasi "She said, mentioning the fateful day when she was given food laced with sedatives and passed out.
When I woke up, I found myself fully naked and my body was trembling. They had all gang-raped me. When I complained to the ashram's leader, he advised me to remain silent if I wanted to survive "She asserted.
East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Prachi Singh said, following an inquiry the Police learned of a court matter involving a property dispute involving the ashram. The DCP said that the incident would be investigated thoroughly.
