Good News! Government doubles gratuity limit for its employees

New Delhi: The decision taken in the capital is good news for thousands of employees who come under the benefit of the seventh pay commission. Taking a big decision, the Delhi government has doubled the gratuity limit of the employees. Till now the limit of gratuity was 10 lakh rupees which has now been increased to 20 lakhs. The benefit of which will be given directly to thousands of employees across the country.

This order to increase the limit of graduation is for the employees of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Employees of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous institute set up under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, will be eligible. The government issued its order on 24 February last year. Accordingly, it has been extended from March 29, 2018. The government has taken this decision for the employees who are associated with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti from 1 January 2004. It has also been stated in the order that the NVS Payment of Gratuity Act is being withdrawn for the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti employees and the Gravity Act 1972 will be implemented in its place.

The Finance Ministry had earlier decided to exempt gratuity up to Rs 20 lakh instead of Rs 10 lakh. From time to time, the limit of gratuity has been increased by the government on the basis of bad market conditions, the budget of companies, their economic condition and ability to pay employees and salary limit. For the rest of the central employees other than Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, the limit of gratuity was raised to Rs 20 lakh in March 2018 itself. The National Education Policy was implemented in the year 1986. Under this, it was decided to establish Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in every district of the country. In which the goal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is to provide proper education in rural areas. In these schools, the provision of CBSE Central Board of Secondary Education i.e. CBSE Board applies.
